Volunteer Firefighter

The Galax Volunteer Fire Department has Firefighter four (4) firefighter positions available. GFD is a 100% Volunteer department in Southwest Virginia. We offer fire suppression, vehicle extrication, wildland, swiftwater rescue, and technical rescue services to the City of Galax and portions of Carroll and Grayson Counties in our first due. Our coverage area is approximately 100 square miles. We are second due for neighboring departments in Virginia as well as northern North Carolina. We operate out of one station with 13 pieces of apparatus. Currently we have 46 Volunteers, 13 Explorers, and an active Ladies Auxillary. All training, gear, and uniforms are provided by the fire department for all Volunteers.
