About
The Elder Independence Fund is 100% resourced through charitable donations to Mystic Valley Elder Services. The Elder Independence Fund is intended to be a resource of last resort to respond to the urgent needs of older adults and adults living with disabilities who have nowhere else to turn for help and for which there is no other government program or resource that can respond to their urgent need.
Each year, through charitable funds raised, Mystic Valley Elder Services is then able to provide support ranging from $99 to a maximum of $1,500 to pay for an urgently needed item or service to help low-income elders or adults living with disabilities remain independent.
By drawing upon the resources of the Mystic Valley Elder Services (MVES) Elder Independence Fund (EIF), MVES can provide a pair of eyeglasses, a hearing aide, a lift-equipped chair, or assistance with paying for moving services to a local older adult or adult living with disabilities who resides in the communities of Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Medford, Melrose, North Reading, Reading, Revere, Stoneham, Wakefield and Winthrop. Mystic Valley Elder Services typically awards over $50,000 annually through this community-funded resource across the 11 communities served. Consequently, each year Mystic Valley Elder Services must replenish this important cash resource so that we can sustain and increase the capacity of the Mystic Valley Elder Services Elder Independence Fund.
Mission Statement
The mission of Mystic Valley Elder Services is to support the rights of older adults and people with disabilities to live independently with dignity in a setting of their choice by providing them and caregivers with information, advice, and access to quality services and resources.
