Special Olympics Utah

More than 2,000 athletes from local communities participate in SOUT. The state is divided along geographical and county lines into seven Area programs. Each Area is administered by an Area Coordinator and management committees of volunteers. This grassroots supervision results in excellent competition, training, fundraising, finances, outreach, public education and volunteer recruitment at the local level. In an Area program, athletes are enrolled and trained by volunteer coaches. SOUT operates from statewide headquarters in Salt Lake City.

To provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in 17 Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
