Mission Statement
Schedule
We deliver meals Monday through Saturday to the homebound in Ann Arbor who, because of their health, are unable to shop and prepare a complete, nutritious meal. We provide 1-2 meals per day, depending on client preference.
Meal Options
Menu options include a standard Western entre, vegetarian entre, Asian entre, gluten free entre, and a sack lunch. We also provide Ensure for clients who are at nutritional risk. Frozen meals are provided on the summer holidays and the day after Thanksgiving. Shelf-stable, emergency food boxes are also delivered to clients 3-4 times a year.
Assessments
Before starting meals, the social work team conducts an initial in-home assessment with the client. Reassessments are conducted with clients every 6 months following their initial assessment. The social work team also connect clients with additional community services and resources as needed.
Volunteering
Volunteers deliver the majority of our meals and are critical to the AAMOW team. In addition to delivering meals, the visit by the volunteer or staff serves as a safety and wellness check. Volunteers report back any concerns they have to Ann Arbor Meals on Wheels staff, who then follow up with the client and their emergency contact, if needed. For many of our participants, a volunteer is the only person they see all day.
