Catherine McAuley Center

The Catherine McAuley Center was founded by the Sisters of Mercy. CMC's mission is to offerhope and opportunity througheducational and supportive services that promote stability, skill-building, and connection. CMC's guiding values are empowerment, learning, mercy, community, and commitment, all foundational aspects of CMC's purpose and structure.

CMC is committed to developing the role volunteers play in achieving its core mission.

CMC's vision is thatpeople will embrace opportunities to better themselves, their families, and their community. This vision is pursued through three unique programs.

Catherine McAuley Center's Education Services programprovides free one-on one tutoring and group instruction to more than 500 adults who are English Language Learners or preparing for the U.S. citizenship test. The programs purpose is to help individuals build the basic English language skills they need to communicate in daily life, improve employment, support their childrens education, and become more integrated members of the community. Over 400 trained community volunteers, guided by a team of professional staff, provide the majority of direct instruction. The program serves low- to moderate-income immigrants and refugees representing roughly 50 countries of origin.

The Women's Services programassists homeless unaccompanied women, providing them with safe housing, support programming, case management services, and mental health and substance abuse counseling. The program works to break the cycle of poverty and nurture healing and recovery for survivors of trauma and homelessness. The program's purpose is to provide the support women need to address issues that contributed to their homelessness, prepare to establish and maintain permanent housing, and gain financial stability.

The Refugee and Immigrant Services program is designed to assist newcomers with resource and healthcare navigation. They also assist with employment placement.
