About

Catholic Hospice, serving Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, is looking for Companion Care Volunteers. Companion Care Volunteers provide companionship to hospice patients and respite to caregivers by playing games with a patient, reading, singing songs, or simply just spending time with them. Patient visits are available 7 days a week from 9 am till 9 pm throughout Miami-Dade and Broward county. As a volunteer with Catholic Hospice, you will receive specialized training in serving hospice patients and ongoing support to meet the specific needs of terminally ill patients living in their own homes, nursing homes, assisted living communities, and medical centers. Volunteering with hospice does not have to be sad; it can be a truly uplifting experience. Volunteering can be one of the most rewarding experiences you may ever have. Taking a few hours out of your week to spend time with a hospice patient can make a profound difference in their life and yours.

After your initial contact expressing interest in this volunteer opportunity, I'll email you a volunteer application to be filled out. Requirements for all new volunteers are the following: submit to a drug screening, background screening, and TB (Tuberculosis) test, which is at the cost of Catholic Hospice. Additionally, potential volunteers must provide a copy of their Covid-19 vaccination card. If you're not vaccinated due to medical reasons, then a letter from your physician will allow you to be exempted from the requirement. Volunteer training is done once a month via zoom and you're expected to participate on one of the training dates. Once all requirements have been met, you're officially able to visit patients.
