About
Communities In Schools of Auburn surrounds students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Communities In Schools of Auburn is part of the nation's largest and most effective dropout prevention organization dedicated to keeping kids in school and helping them succeed in life.
At Communities In Schools, we work hand in hand with schools, communities and families to surround our students with a caring network of support. Communities In Schools trains and places site coordinators directly into schools. Once there, our job is to connect students and their families to basic and critical support tailored to each student's specific needs that address both academic and non-academic barriers to learning.
Low income students bring the burdens of poverty with them to school. Their lack of basic necessities like food, shelter and clothing make it difficult for them to focus on learning. Poverty is the single largest risk factor for dropping out of school, and those who drop out are more likely to earn thousands less over a working lifetime, suffer poor health, be dependent on social services, or enter the criminal justice system, resulting in billions of dollars each year in lost tax revenue and increased spending on government programs. By helping students stay in school and succeed in life, we are building a stronger America, where every person is capable of reaching his or her greatest potential.
Mission Statement
Across the Auburn School District 53% of students qualify for free and reduced lunch. That number increases to over 80% at some schools.
Students facing challenges in their personal lives often start their school career with an achievement gap, just getting them food or clothing will not bring them up to grade level. Our programs provide opportunities for both social and academic support.Multiple interventions are designed around students needing additional support. We checkin with studentsto make sure the support is working. On-site coordinators create individualized case plans for targeted students that are monitored and adjusted as needed, helping them achieve personal success.
