About
MISSION: To present outstanding early music, use early music to enrich cultural heritage via education and outreach, and engage new audiences through inclusivity and openness.
VISION: Early Music Seattle leads in enriching cultural life in the Pacific Northwest. HISTORY Formed in 1977 as the Early Music Guild of Seattle, Early Music Seattle is now the areas largest presenter of early music, including the International Series and Seattle Baroque Orchestra, and related educational programs serving 2,400 students in Seattle Public Schools annually and more than 100 amateur musicians.
Mission Statement
Early Music Seattle is the Puget Sound regions largest presenter of early music and related educational programs. Its main stage events include Seattle Baroque Orchestra and internationally renowned touring musicians performing works that span the centuries from 1100-1800. For many years, Early Music Seattles focus was on the ancient music of Europe, but as the demographics of Washington changed, Early Music Seattle began developing strategies and programs to serve communities traditionally under served by main stage concerts and to celebrate the ancient musical traditions of Mexico, Central and South America, Africa, the Middle East, and the Far East. Early Music Seattle's schools program intentionally operates in King County schools traditionally under served by the arts. Early Music Seattle was the recipient of a three-year capacity-building grant from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust in January 2017, and of Costco Youth Access Awards from ArtsFund in 2016 and 2017 in recognition of our significant efforts to engage under served or ethnically diverse youth.
