About
Elkton Area United Services(EAUS) programs include:
Emergency Assistance, which aids families or individuals who are in immediate financial need. These needs include funds for rent, fuel, electricity and medical needs within reason. Applicants must meet 150% of poverty federally mandated income guidelines in order to qualify. Financial assistance is given one time in a 12-month period and cannot exceed $200. Individuals applying for assistance must make an appointment with the Client Services Manager at 540-298-8685.
Food Pantry helps area families stretch their food dollars. Eligibility for this program is based on 150% of poverty federally mandated income guidelines. Food is distributed the third Friday of each month. In order to receive a food box, food pantry patrons must sign up in advance with the Client Services Manager at 540-298-8685.
Meals at Heartprovides nutritional meals for home-bound Elkton area residents each Thursday using food donated in part by local church groups and individuals. There are no specific eligibility requirements other than a "need" must be present. No special preparations are made for persons on restricted diets.
Holiday Cheer is coordinated with area churches, organizations and businesses to provide a joyful holiday season for older adults and families with children.
Literacy in the community is provided through three programs:
- GED Classes are taught each Monday and Wednesday evening during the school year by Massanutten Technical Center.
- Back to School supplies are given to children in the elementary, middle and high schools.
- Reading Rules!gives free books to school age children. The books are distributed at the Thrift Store.
Traveler's Aid helps individuals traveling through the Elkton area who are in need of assistance. For assistance contact the Client Services office at 540-298-0931.
EAUS Thrift Storehas for sale reasonably priced used clothing, furniture and miscellaneous items. The store, which is open to all, generates approximately 40 percent of the funds to support EAUS' programs.
It is located at 15386 Old Spotswood Trail in Elkton. Hours of operation are Monday - Saturday. The store gladly accepts donations of good, clean used items for resale during regular business hours.

Elkton Area United Services(EAUS) is a comprehensive social service agency serving the Elkton area since 1972. Through its programs EAUS provides assistance with housing, electricity, heat, food, GED classes, school supplies, books, transportation, aid to stranded travelers, senior citizen activities and a joyful holiday season. EAUS tries to develop programs where a need exists and tries to meet the needs of an ever-changing community. The organization is supported by donations from the community and the Harrisonburg-Rockingham County United Way and proceeds from the EAUS Thrift Store.
