About

Transforming Lives Through Food

We help people overcoming barriers to employment gain job and life skills while feeding our community. It starts with food but grows from there into career pathways that provide stability and economic mobility.

FareStart is a social enterprise nonprofit focused on job training and employment. We run food-based businesses that serve as classrooms for our students to learn on-the-job skills that will prepare them for careers while nourishing the community and sustainably funding our mission. Our end goal is personal stability and economic mobility for people overcoming barriers to employment.

Mission Statement

Job Training

FareStart's free job training programs skill, reskill and upskill students so they are prepared for the career pathways of their choosing. We provide whole-person support that works with students where they are, offering wraparound case management and help with basic needs including food, housing, counseling and transportation. Our end goal is personal stability and economic mobility for people overcoming barriers to employment.

Food Security

Our food security programs feed and sustain each other to maximize the benefits of fresh, healthy and nutritious food. We purchase, recover and upcycle food to help feed the community through our Mobile Community Market and Community & School Meals Programs.

Consulting

We work with nonprofits and opportunity employers to advance job training programs and realize better employment outcomes for people overcoming barrier to employment.
