About

For more than a century, our mission is "Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place."

Girl Scouts was founded in March of 1912 by Juliette "Daisy" Gordon Low in Savannah, Georgia. She encouraged girls to prepare not only for traditional homemaking, but also for future roles as professional women--in the arts, sciences and business--and for active citizenship outside the home.

The Girl Scouts of Wisconsin - Badgerland Council was formed on June 1, 2009 after a three-council merger of Badger Council (Madison), Riverland Council (LaCrosse) and Badger Council (Beloit). The legacy councils have been premier girl organizations for over 50 years. The Badgerland Council now serves more than 9,000girls and 3,000 adult volunteers throughout 21 counties in south-central and southwest Wisconsin; with Dane Countybeing home to our largest membership area.

Dedicated solely to girls in grades K-12 regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation or socioeconomic level, Girl Scouts is the premiere leadership organization offering girls the tools they need to be successful leaders now and throughout their lives. It is our goal that every girl has the opportunity to achieve three key leadership outcomes through Girl Scout programming:

(1) Girls Discover themselves and the environment around them;

(2) Girls Connect with others and build healthy relationships; and

(3) Girls Take Action by identifying community needs and help make a difference locally & globally.

Mission Statement

In Girl Scouts, girls discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls together. Through a myriad of enriching experiences, such as extraordinary field trips, sports skill-building clinics, community service projects, cultural exchanges, and environmental stewardships, girls grow courageous and strong.

Girl Scouting helps girls develop their full individual potential; relate to others with increasing understanding, skill, and respect; develop values to guide their actions and provide the foundation for sound decision-making; and contribute to the improvement of society through their abilities, leadership skills, and cooperation with others.

Girl Scouts believes every experience should be wow-worthy. In everything we do, we encourage girls to follow the fun, do what they love, and never back down from a big adventure. Because when girls wow even themselves, they find the sparkle that makes them special- and never stop believing in their dreams.

We teach girls to take action: for themselves, their communities, and the world. By giving them different perspectives and opportunities to make a difference, we inspire girls to give back and share the good. And with generations of proactive, passionate community members,Girl Scouts is helping girls to make the world a better place.
