About
The Houston Eye Associates Foundation is committed to preserving and restoring sight with comprehensive eye care surgeries, medications, and ancillary services for individuals in financial hardship; and supporting education and research initiatives for the benefit of the community.
Mission Statement
Houston Eye Associates Foundation provides medical and surgical eye care services, of all sub-specialties, at no-cost to the under-insured Texans in need. The Foundation provides these services through two programs: the surgical/medical program and Eye Care for Kids, an optometric program that provides free vision screening, eye exams, and glasses for high need area youth.
The medical and surgical eye care services are provided within the Greater Houston area, while patients are accepted into the program from throughout Texas. All qualified patients receive complete surgical and medical eye care services at no cost. Physicians generously donate their time and services, while the Foundation pays for surgical facility fees, sight-saving medications, medically necessary glasses, and other ancillary services necessary to preserve and restore one's sight.
In 2019, the Foundation adopted the Eye Care for Kids program to serve Houston area youth. This program provides free eye exams and glasses to area low income, uninsured area youth. Additionally, we provide free vision screenings to schools throughout the greater Houston area. The screening program was put on hold during COVID and we are relaunching for the 2022-2023 school year. We are recruiting vision screeners to assist schools who need help with conducting state mandated vision screenings. Volunteers must be eligible to work in public schools and the Foundation will provide required certification trainings on selected dates.
