About
Interfaith Works is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency and a non-sectarian interfaith coalition of more than 165 affiliated congregations of diverse faiths, working together to meet the needs of the poor and homeless in Montgomery County, Maryland. Our programs shelter, clothe, and feed our neighbors in need and provide supportive services with the goal of helping them achieve self-sufficiency. Our mission is to pursue social justice with an emphasis on identifying and meeting the needs of the poor by leading and engaging Montgomery County's faith communities in service, education, and advocacy.
Our trained, professional staff members work with individuals and families in crisis to empower them with the tools and skills they need to lift themselves from poverty. Almost 72,000 Montgomery County residents are living on incomes below the Federal poverty line, and 19,757 of these residents are children. Every day, hundreds of people in our community turn to Interfaith Works for help. From prevention to emergency shelter to permanent supportive housing, Interfaith Works helps people in crisis lift themselves out of poverty, changing lives for a better today and tomorrow. Interfaith Works is the only organization providing services across the housing continuum of care in Montgomery County to touch all aspects of people's lives so they can find safety and security. Each year, thanks to you and other generous partners, Interfaith Works impacts more than 17,000 lives.
Mission Statement
Volunteers, both adults and students, will work with our staff to provide a positive experience to clients utilizing our services. Specific tasks and volunteer projects vary from program site. At the Interfaith Works Clothing Center, volunteers will sort and organize donated clothing and household items, and support clients as they shop for items as needed; volunteers can also prepare food bags for our weekly Food Hub distribution, and distribute food to families. Volunteers interested in our women's shelter, overflow shelters, and permanent supportive homes can prepare cooked meals for our residents.Volunteers interested in helping at the main office would be asked to assist with a shredding and scanning project. More details given upon request.
We would be happy to have you volunteer at the Interfaith Works Clothing Center. The Interfaith Works Clothing Center (IWCC) distributes donated items free of charge to IWCC clients so they can pay for rent, food, and other expenses. Thousands of individuals, businesses, schools, camps, service organizations and congregations donate time and goods, which make our program possible. We are proud to provide the link between people in our community who have things they no longer need or want with the people in the community who are in desperate need of the same items.
In order to continue to maintain a safe experience for all of our customers and volunteers, all shopping and volunteer service will be by appointment only. More information about signing up to shop or volunteer is below, along with information about donating to the Interfaith Works Clothing Center.
