Maine Jewish Museum

The mission of the Maine Jewish Museum is to honor the contributions and diversity of Maine's Jewish immigrants in the context of the American experience. Through exhibits and programming, the Museum seeks to build bridges of of appreciation and understanding with people of all backgrounds. The Tree of Life Foundation was established to restore Etz Chaim Synagogue, a turn-of-the-century immigrant era house of worship, and transform it into the Maine Jewish Museum. The newly restored building stands as a testament to the Jewish families of Maine who, from humble beginnings, began life anew and made lasting contributions to their new community. The Maine Jewish Museum, open since 2011, tells their stories.

At the Maine Jewish Museum, we personally welcome all of our visitors, share our stories and encourage their questions. If you are friendly, engaging, and welcoming, we're looking for you to greet visitors, describe what's available, and give tours as requested. You can learn about art (new contemporary art exhibits every 8 weeks), history (in the heart of the immigrant quarter (of the last century) and much more - and share what you learn with others.
