Volunteer Criteria:

Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age. ▪ Volunteers must complete the registration form, health assessment form, drug test and background check (ages 18 and older) or working papers (ages 16 and 17). ▪ Volunteers must agree to provide a minimum of two hours of service per week. Teenage volunteers are asked to make a commitment of 60 hours or more during a twelve-month period. ▪

Greeter Role:

Position Summary Extend a warm, friendly welcome/greet patients, family members and visitors and assist them to their destination if needed; provide information as needed. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following 1. Provide a welcoming environment for patients, families and visitors. 2. Provide information and escort person(s) to their destination if needed. 3. Work closely with reception areas as needed to assist person(s) in need. 4. Provide wheelchair service as needed. 5. Provide general office-based assistance as directed. 6. Contact appropriate MEAC staff member if needed for assistance, clarification or encounter of an unusual circumstance. Core Competencies 1. Enjoys meeting and helping people and have an upbeat, warm personality. 2. Understands and perform job duties and responsibilities. 3. Maintains patient confidentiality. 4. Demonstrates good judgment, tact and discretions when dealing with patients, families, visitors and staff. 5. Maintains a professional appearance. Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environments - Must complete wheelchair competency checklist. - Must be able to move wheelchair (if applicable). - Must be able to remain in stationary position.

Observership Role:

Student Volunteers may “observe” patient interaction with Montefiore staff, with patient verbal permission. • Student Volunteers may not share or ask questions regarding personal health information or provide unsolicited medical advice. • Supervising physicians, L.P.Ns, Administrative Nurse Managers, or other clinical staff, mentors, or preceptors may review a patient case with students/volunteers only to explain physician or nursing aspect of care. Students/volunteers may not look at patient records. • Observers: This is a strict “Observership” and students must adhere to specific student protocols that will be given to the student. Observers must adhere to all Student Volunteer Protocols. • Students Volunteers may not have access to patient records and personal health information. Patient surveys and data analysis must not allow access to PHI (Protected Health Information) and patient records. • Student Volunteers may not touch patients. • Student Volunteers may not touch examination, testing, exercise, or any other medical equipment; they may observe only. • Appropriate professional attire and a volunteer I.D. Badge must be worn at all times.
