About

SHELTER. The MHS houses over 10,000 homeless animals annually. The operations team cares for the animals 365 days a year. FUNDRAISING AND SPECIAL EVENTS. A non-profit organization, the MHS seeks funds through donations and special events. Special events include mobile adoptions, Dog-U-Tante Ball, Pet Photo Contest, and other events to heighten community awareness. MHS is a 501(c)3 organization and donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. LOST AND FOUND PROGRAM. The lost and found coordinator keeps track of all the incoming animals, maintains the lost and found card file, reviews media pertaining to lost and found animals, then tries to match owners with their lost pets. ANIMAL CRUELTY AND NEGLECT INVESTIGATIONS. Investigates reports of animal cruelty and neglect and prosecutes confirmed cases. RESCUE. We rescue animals in distress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Also, relocate endangered wildlife to suitable environments. HUMANE EDUCATION PROGRAM. We provide Humane Education to serve the needs of the community. Dedicated to expanding the ethical sphere of humane behavior to include all living beings, we provide quality, age-specific educational programming focusing on responsible pet ownership and other animal-related issues to local schools, youth organizations, and groups of adults. Teaching children and adults kindness to animals instills a love of ALL life . . . both animal and human. PET VISITATION PROGRAM (PET THERAPY). We visit residents of area nursing homes, retirement homes, and mental and physical rehabilitation centers to provide the opportunity to touch and hold shelter animals and to visit with shelter staff and volunteers. Scientific studies indicate that interaction with animals potentially improves the mental and physical well-being of residents involved in an animal visitation program. VOLUNTEERS. The humane society depends significantly on its volunteers. If you would like to volunteer at the humane society, please call 409-0622 for additional information. Volunteers are needed daily Monday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 kennel assistants, office assistants, assist with education briefings and pet therapy. ADOPTIONS: We provide an adoption service to place homeless animals into loving families. The MHS does not sell animals, we place animals into loving families -- there is an adoption fee. The adoption fees are $55 for Dogs/Puppies and $45 for Cats/Kittens. Adoptions include the initial immunizations that are provided to every animal at the Shelter, worming, free veterinarian visit, certificate to get a free rabies shot, discount certificate to get the animal spayed/neutered, and various other discount coupons for supplies.
