Mothers Against Drunk Driving

The mission of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is to end drunk driving, help fight drugged driving, support the victims of these violent crimes, and prevent underage drinking. The Impact On average, two out of three people will be impacted by drunk driving in their lifetime. Every 2 minutes, someone is injured in a drunk driving crash. Every day 28 people are killed by drunk driving. Founded in 1980 by a mother whose daughter was killed by a drunk driver, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is the nations largest nonprofit working to end drunk driving, help fight drugged driving, support the victims of these violent crimes and prevent underage drinking. MADD has helped to save nearly 380,000 lives, reduce drunk driving deaths by more than 50 percent and promote designating a non-drinking driver. MADDs Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving calls for law enforcement support, ignition interlocks for all offenders and advanced vehicle technology. MADD has provided supportive services to nearly one million drunk and drugged driving victims

Mothers Against Drunk Driving works to end drunk driving through High Visibility Law Enforcement, Ignition Interlocks, Advanced Vehicle Technology, and through Public Support. MADD works with the victims of Drunk Driving in a multitude of ways. MADD participates in community outreach, education, works with law enforcement and government officials, and spreads awareness and works to end Drunk and Drugged Driving while providing support to victims. With over 350,000 lives saved and over 820,000 victims served, MADD works to: Provide emotional support and assistance with medical and legal struggles that follow a drunk driving crash. Support the heroes in law enforcement who work to keep our roads safe. Work with state and local legislators to adopt tougher laws, including requiring ignition interlocks for all DUI offenders, and closing the loopholes in many existing laws. Support the development of technology to determine automatically whether or not the driver is above the legal limit of .08 and failing to operate if the driver is drunk.
