About

The Northern Neck of Virginia Audubon Societysmission is to conserve native birds and their habitats throughout the countiesof the Northern Neck. Founded in 1970, the organization works to protect birdsand the places they need to survive including wetlands, forests, grasslands,and coastal areas through science, advocacy, education, and on-the-groundconservation work.

Mission Statement

The Northern Neck Audubon Chapterpursues its mission through science & research, monitoring birdpopulations, tracking migration patterns, and identifying threatened speciesand habitats. It also protects and restores critical ecosystems wetlands,forests, grasslands, and coastlines through land acquisition, stewardshipprograms, and partnerships with private landowners. Audubon has made climate change a centralfocus, publishing research on how rising temperatures are shifting bird rangesand advocating for clean energy solutions that are also bird-safe (such asreducing bird strikes from wind turbines and even window strikes. Audubon educates by engaging the publicthrough birdwatching programs, nature education, and projects like theChristmas Bird Count one of the longest-running citizen science initiativesin the world which generates valuable population data.
