About

Postpartum Support Virginias MISSION is to educate families, healthcare providers and communities about Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) and to provide resources to help new and expectant mothers and their families overcome anxiety, depression, and other PMADs. Postpartum Support Virginias VISION is that all birthing people and parents in Virginia will receive information about PMADs, be screened for them during pregnancy and throughout the first year after birth and have access to resources for recovery. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based in Arlington, VA but serving families throughout the state, to include Prince William County.

Mission Statement

Postpartum Support Virginia provides social support for new and expectant families; resources and information for families, providers & community groups; and outreach and education. Our social support is offered in the form of a warmline (phone or text), one-on-one support via phone, email or social media, virtual (and in-person when not during the pandemic) social support groups and peer mentors who offer one-on-one support for an extended amount of time. Postpartum Support Virginia provides resources to hospitals and providers, families and groups via print materials and our website which also contains a PMAD Mental Health Provider Directory. Outreach and education is offered to professionals (mental health providers as well as OBGYN, pediatrician and other birth workers) looking to increase awareness and capacity for those who are diagnosed and need treatment for a PMAD. With the exception of Mental Health and Healthcare Provider Training and select other trainings, most of the social support and outreach is conducted by volunteers as PSVa exists in large part thanks to volunteers who donate their time and services.
