About
Riverview Center is a non-profit agency committed to providing compassionate, survivor-centered care for individuals affected by sexual violence in 14 counties in Iowa, and care for individuals affected by sexual and/or domestic violence in Jo Daviess and Carroll counties in Illinois.
Mission Statement
Since our inception, Riverview Centers primary concern has been to create a safe environment for survivors of violence. By providing choices, we empower survivors to decide how we can best serve their needs on their road to healing. To meet these diverse needs, Riverview Center provides:
Therapy/Counseling:Our master degree counselors provide trauma focused counseling that is custom-tailored for child, adolescent, and adult survivors and significant others in individual and group settings.
Medical Advocacy:Advocates are available 24-hours a day to mediate interactions between the survivor, emergency room personnel, and law enforcement, to provide information about medical options, and referrals for other services.
Legal Advocacy:Legal advocates serve as liaisons between the survivors and the criminal justice system to ensure their rights are protected. Advocates can assist with orders of protection and accompany survivors to police interviews and court proceedings.
General Advocacy:In order to meet all of the needs of our clients, we provide referrals and information about other social services, and accompany survivors to appointments with other agencies. We also triage with child survivors' schools and adults' employers so they have a safe space throughout their day where they aren't reminded of the abuse.
Violence Prevention Education:Children and mentors are empowered to cope with personal stress and hostile situations such as bullying, unhealthy relationships, inappropriate sexual contact, and other threats to childrens safety through in-classroom presentations, student-led action committees, interactive activities at health fairs and kids expos, community anti-bullying rallies, and other initiatives to mobilize communities in the prevention of violence.
In addition, police, medical and social service agency personnel, school district employees, and businesses participate in professional trainings and public education to safeguard our community's public environments from sexual harassment and other forms of abuse, and to protect the rights and privacy of survivors of abuse.
Volunteering:We strive to maximize our impact while still offering all of our services free of charge. Call 319-939-9599 to learn more about advocacy, fundraising events, and/or Internships.
