About
Since its inception in 2001, the Shepherd's Center of Chesterfield has focused on three strategic programs/services to carry out its mission of keeping seniors active and independent in their own homes for as long as possible. 1. Free, accompanied transportation service Because many older adults cannot afford or do not have the transportation necessary to get to their vital medical appointments, to the pharmacy for their prescription needs or to the grocery store, Shepherd's Center's volunteers provide them with a free transportation service. This is available for people 50 years old and above who are mobile without a wheelchair and who live in zip code areas where we have at least 2 volunteer drivers. (We do NOT qualify or disqualify people according to their income levels….if they need transportation, our drivers are happy to provide it.) Our volunteer drivers: Pick up the client at home Transport them to their appointmentsWait with them at their appointmentsReturn them to their doorsteps Our volunteer drivers use their own vehicles and pay for their own gasoline. Even in the face of rising of gasoline costs, most drivers accept no reimbursement!
