Slide Ranch

Slide Ranch is a non profit educational farm located within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area near Muir Beach. Slide Ranch offers a year-round program of hands on environmental agricultural education for school groups and families. Since inception in 1970, Slide Ranch has promoted efforts to protect west Marin's agricultural heritage and sensitive ocean habitats, while teaching over 160,000 people respect for the earth and each other.

Slide Ranch offers farm-based environmental educational opportunities to the children and adults in the Bay Area and beyond. The 134-acre site, located within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area., consists of grazing pastures, a barn for sheep and goats, a chicken house, an organic garden, coastal wild lands and tide pools, as well as outdoor areas designated for camping, cooking and nature crafts. Functioning as a working farm, Slide Ranch lives its mission of working toward sustainability. The resident teachers are immersed in the many elements of farm management, humane animal management practices, organic gardening and food production. The teaching community and resident staff strive to live in balance with nature and are always considering the impact that one's choices have on one's environment and community. Slide Ranch is the first nonprofit organization to be certified by Marin County as a Green Business. (awarded April 2002). The Slide Ranch garden is recognized by the Marin County Agricultural Commissioner's office as certified organic".
