Smith Point Sea Rescue (SPSR) is a state chartered, 50 yearsyoung, all-volunteer search and rescue organization that covers the ChesapeakeBay from the Potomac River to the Rappahannock River and the Potomac River fromColes Point to the Bay. Members share year-round duties, 24 hours a day, toassist boaters in need and engage in search and rescue missions, as well asconduct training and maintaining equipment.
Mission Statement
Members of SPSR are expected to:
- Have completed a Safe Boating Course and have boatingexperience.
- Actively participate on the duty schedule:
- Serve on duty for one week at a time, every four or fiveweeks, spring, summer, and fall, on a rotation that fits your schedule.
- Stay within a 20-minute drive of your assigned rescue boatwhile on duty.
- When on duty, if you must leave the immediate area or willbe unavailable, alert your Duty Captain prior to your absence.
- Attend monthly meetings unless out of town or ill. Meetingsare on the second Monday of the month at 1830.
- Complete annual onboard training as prescribed by the SPSRTraining Plan.
- Complete CPR and First Aid Training provided by SPSR.
- Participate in group activities, such as the Oyster Roast,Christmas Party, Annual Picnic, highway cleanup.
- Participate when asked to represent the organization atcommunity events SPSR chooses to support.
- Learn, grow, and become an active part of the Smith PointSea Rescue planning and leadership team.
- Have a desire to support their localcommunity......"there when needed."
