About
When people need help, we'll be there. That is our calling. We serve everyone without regard to faith, religion, age, sex, national origin, creed, or color. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul leads individuals to join together to offer person-to-person service to the poor and the suffering.
Mission Statement
- Home Visits Services Our 50+ chapters, made up of 1,200 neighborhood-based volunteers, served 34,000 individuals and families last year. They helped prevent evictions, assisted with funds for utility shut-offs, distributed food, and more. They do their own fundraising and 99% of their resources are devoted to helping neighbors. Where our local groups are unable to raise adequate funds to meet the needs of the poor in their areas, the council provides support through three different funding sources as part of its Conference Assistance Program. - Case Management SVdP case management services assist individuals to overcome systemic barriers that perpetuate poverty including unemployment, histories of addiction or incarceration, mental illness, inadequate education and lack of affordable housing. Our team of four case managers have been trained in using evidence-based methods of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing, practices that are proven to help people make lasting behavioral changes. Our case management team served 300 people last year. Additionally, we also provided short-term case management to Native Americans through our partnership with Chief Seattle Club. - Helpline Our Helpline, operated by paid staff and volunteers, received over 46,000 requests for assistance last year. For the past ten consecutive years, we have been the #1 referral source for calls for help coming to the King County 2-1-1 Crisis Line. - Georgetown South Seattle Food Bank Our Georgetown Food Bank provides food and clothing every Tuesday and Thursday to needy individuals and families. Our motto is Everyone Eats Today. Volunteers and staff distribute food and clothing to 64,000 people annually. The Food Bank also offers Health Assessments, serving over 2,000 people last year. Two volunteer nurses from the Medical Reserve Corps provide free blood pressure checks, diabetes care, medical advice, and make referrals to medical care on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We also launched an initiative on Fridays called FACES (Food, Assistance, Compassion, Emergency, Services) which provides weekend food and nutrition packs, clothing and personal hygiene kits to homeless individuals. Our homeless program has supported 3,400 of our neighbors in the last year. - Centro Rendu Centro Rendu, a community based and Latino-led program in South King County, provides culturally and linguistically appropriate case management, literacy education, and advocacy designed to increase stability, parent engagement, self-empowerment, and civic involvement for Latino families. Centro Rendu partnered with Highline Community College to provide educational services to the Latino population through Centro Rendu. Centro Rendu offers day care services which allow adults to focus on their education, while providing a safe space for their children. Centro Rendu also offers case management outreach to schools and families; has created a prevention program for pregnant teens; as well as offering BIA certifications. Centro Rendu served approximately 1,000 people last year. - Thrift Stores Our five thrift stores generate revenues to fund programs to help people all over King County. We also generate revenues from recycling of unsold items from stores and we divert hundreds of tons of consumer goods from landfills. The stores provide transitional employment and skills training. Our chapters provide SVdP thrift store vouchers to neighbors in need, enabling them to shop at our thrift stores for items they need.
