About

At Seattle Public Schools our vision is for every child to experience a quality, cohesive and joyful learning experience from Pre-Kindergarten on up that will provide the strong foundation needed to succeed in school and life. Head Start has been a part of Seattle Public Schools for over 50 years! We serve more than 400 low-income children and families every year, and currently have 9 elementary sites with Head Start classrooms. Partnering with the greater school system helps in preparing children for Kindergarten transition, as staff assists with completing enrollment forms, introducing parents to new staff, and helping children and parents familiarize themselves with the school system in general.

Mission Statement

Seattle Public Schools Head Start educates and supports young children and their families to enhance their potential for success as life-long learners! The overall goal of Head Start is to improve the social competence and school readiness through commitments to a supportive learning environment for children and families. Head Start respects the importance of all aspects of a child's development, including social, emotional, cognitive and physical growth. Head Start recognizes that children develop in the context of their family, respecting culture and language. We believe that fostering relationships with the community is important for families and children so that families are respected and their needs met. Head start continues to focus on school readiness as it's primary goal.
