About

Our mission is to address the needs of homeless families with children by providing affordable housing with support services to enable families to move toward economic stability and self sufficiency. SSHA began as an outreach ministry of St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church in 1989. Incorporating in 1990 as a separate non-profit, we leased 8 units of housing from King County Housing Authority. In 2001 we purchased an additional 12 units of housing, working closely with the Gates Foundation's Sound Families program. We are currently working toward aligning with King County's focus on a more rapid-rehousing approach to homeless services.

Mission Statement

SSHA provides affordable housing and support services to families experiencing homelessness. Families are housed in one of 20 units in either Kent or Auburn for up to one year. Our housing case managers work closely with families to help them stabilize their lives and build the skills needed to maintain housing. We are now embarking on a new journey of helping homeless families return to permanent housing more rapidly. Our program continues to be a safe but temporary stay for families as they work on employment and financial goals and successfully transition to permanent housing.
