About

The Heritage Society (THS) is nonprofit organization founded in 1954 whose mission is to tell the stories of the diverse history of Houston and Texas through collections, exhibits, the arts, educational programs, film, video, and other content.

Founded in 1954 by a number of public-spirited Houstonians to rescue the 1847 Kellum-Noble House from demolition, The Heritage Society has since saved an additional nine historic buildings, moved them from various locations to join the Kellum-Noble House in Sam Houston Park, and restored them to reflect their respective eras. These ten buildings, along with the Museum Gallery, serve as historic reference points and exhibition spaces for more than 23,000 artifacts that document life in Houston from the early 1800s to the mid-1900s.

Mission Statement

The Heritage Society has a Houston history museum and gift shop for locals and tourists. We perform group, virtual, and private tours of the museum exhibits and of ten (10) historic homes in beautiful Sam Houston Park.

We offer indoor and outdoor event/facility space for weddings, family celebrations, corporate events, and non-profit events.

We also offer educational lectures in-person, virtually, and live using Facebook and Instagram.

We have a dedicated board, a friendly staff, and need talented volunteers who enjoy showcasing Houston history. We are ambassadors for Houston and want all of our guests to have an enriching experience when they visit our museum and beautiful tours.
