About
Living with memory loss can be isolating. But it does not have to be that way. Bringing together people, programs and partners, the Memory Hub operates as a vibrant dementia-specific community center, collaborative workspace, and training center.
At the Memory Hub, there is a place for people with memory loss and their families to connect with others who understand their experience, while accessing a variety of programs and resources tailored to their many strengths. Spearheaded by the UW Memory and Brain Wellness Center (MBWC) and located on the campus of founding partner the Frye Art Museum, the Memory Hub welcomes visitors year-round to explore what it means to live well with dementia.
Mission Statement
The UW Memory and Brain Wellness Center (MBWC) long dreamed of establishing a home for support, education, and engagement programs a warm and welcoming space, beyond the hospital, where a person with memory loss or care partner could be simply a person, not a patient or research subject. In 2016, the dream became reality as founding donor Richard M. Ferry expressed interest in funding a new transformative project to improve the lives of people with memory loss & their families. Fast forward to March 2022, after overcoming many hurdles, the Memory Hub celebrated with a grand opening!
Today, the Memory Hub is a realized dream amidst innovative efforts of mission-aligned organizations: MBWC, Frye Art Museum, Alzheimers Association (WA State Chapter), Elderwise, and Full Life Care. These inaugural collaborators work on-site making it easier for families to access multiple resources concurrently.
The Memory Hub is a vibrant dementia-specific community space offering:
Education, support & wellness programs for people with memory loss and their families (memory loss class, caregiving workshop, creative art, technology).
Local & state level partnerships (Momentia, Dementia Action Collaborative (DAC)) yielding significant outcomes like the Dementia Friends
Actionable steps, aligned with DAC, preparing dementia-friendly communities & statewide network of dementia practitioners through training opportunities like Project ECHO Dementia and observing & implementing model programs.
