About

The Rainbow Project was established in 1980 by Executive Director, Sharyl Kato. Since opening our doors, we have worked with over 10,500 children & 9,000 caregivers. The Rainbow Project Child & Family Counseling & Resource Clinic serves families with young children, primarily ages 10 & under, in Dane County, Wisconsin, & the surrounding areas. Rainbow Project provides individualized, consumer-centered, & responsive services within a variety of settings. Services provided include short & long-term counseling, prevention & early intervention services for children, adults, families, & the community. These services are intended to promote positive change within families, including building, strengthening & supporting healthy parent/child relationships (improving child behaviors & development, & providing parent education & support); prevention, early intervention & treatment for families affected by family violence (including services to families with patterns which place members at risk for maltreatment OR future mental health concerns); advocate for the mental health needs & support of families & children in the community; and strengthen the capacity of the larger community to prevent, respond to, & support those who have experienced trauma (including community violence, grief/loss, natural disasters, child maltreatment, domestic violence, substance abuse, mental illness & adjustment to other life transitions).
