Two common misconceptions about hospice: That it is a type of health care facility and that it is only for those very close to the end of life.

In fact, hospice care is most often provided in the comfort of the home. Hospice is suitable for patients whoelect to move from curative treatment to symptom treatment of their life-limiting illness, or those whose illness, if it runs its normal course, has six months' prognosis. At UnityPoint Hospice, we make it our mission to give the health care we'd like our loved ones to receive.

Hospice offers holistic care by addressing the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of each patient. Medical care focuses on controlling symptoms and managing pain to provide comfort and dignity. We partner with patients and families throughout their journey, honoring individual choices.

Volunteers are essential to the compassionate and personalized care provided by UnityPoint Hospice. Volunteers many services include providing companionship, socialization, and two- or three-hour respite services.
