About
"The mission of the U District Food Bank is to provide individuals and families who are in need with food and access to a network of community resources to help them achieve self-sufficiency ."
Mission Statement
The U District Food Bank has 4 programs that we operate to achieve our mission. Each of these programs is supported almost entirely by teams of volunteers.
Walk-In Food Pantry
The U District Food Bank operates a walk in food pantry for people living in zip codes 98105, 98115, 98125, 98112, 98102, and 98103 or who are currently experiencing homelessness. The food pantry is open to the public on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. We strive to create a welcoming space for people to shop.
Home-Delivery
The U District Food Bank organizes a home delivery service each Wednesday morning. Homebound people residing in our service area can sign up for a weekly delivery of groceries. Each delivery is carefully assembled according to preferences to ensure that people get the correct groceries.
Packs For Kids
During the school year, the U District Food Bank supports the Packs For Kids program in collaboration with 8 Seattle Public Schools in our service area. Students at risk of going hungry during the weekend get a back pack full of kid-friendly, nutritious, and easy to prepare snacks and meals.
Rooftop Roots
Rooftop Roots is a vegetable garden on the roof of the Marion West Building where the food bank is located. We grow vegetables year round, maintain bee hives, make compost, and teach local youth about urban agriculture.
