For more than 130 years, Waypoint's services have evolved to meet the ever-changing needs of individuals, children, and families. Today, Waypoint offers a variety of proactive services and resources for those experiencing housing instability, poverty, or violence or needing access to quality, affordable child care.
Mission Statement
Waypoint's services are now impacting more than 20,000 individuals each year. Our current programs include:
HOUSING SERVICES
Our Housing Services help households experiencing housing instability thought multiple best practice programs such as:
- Coordinated Entry- serves as a central point of contact for households experiencing a housing crisis or those who are seeking emergency shelter in the Linn, Benton, and Jones Counties.
- Homeless Diversion/Eviction Prevention:Empowering individuals facing imminent homelessness to identify safe and appropriate housing options and assist them in avoiding shelter and returning immediately to housing.Provides case management and community resource navigation for individuals at risk of housing instability.
- Rapid Re-Housing:Supports households experiencing homelessness with housing search and placement. Offers advocacy with area landlords and ongoing case management to support stabilization and if available short-term financial assistance for rent and/or security deposit.
- Tenant Academy:Provides monthly education courses to teach tenant rights and responsibilities when entering into a lease agreement. Teaches tenants effective communication skills with landlords.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIM SERVICES PROGRAM
Waypoints Domestic Violence Victim Services Program provides support services to help victims and their families cope with the trauma of controlling, hurtful intimate partners. Services include 24-hour Resource & Support Line, one-on-one peer counseling, medical, legal, housing, and criminal justice advocacy, and weekly support groups. Waypoint provides Domestic Violence Victim Services to the following counties: Benton, Black Hawk, Buchanan, Delaware, Dubuque, Jones, and Linn.
SURVIVORS' PROGRAM
Waypoint'sSurvivors Program supports and advocates for individuals who have lost a family member or friend through homicide or vehicular homicide. Support is also given to victims of violent felony crimes, such as kidnapping, robbery, and attempted murder. All services are 100% free and confidential. The Survivors' Program serves Benton, Des Moines, Henry, Iowa, Jefferson, Johnson, Jones, Keokuk, Lee, Linn, Poweshiek, Tama, Van Buren and Washington Counties.
KIDSPOINT: CHILD CARE SERVICES
Waypoint's child care program, KidsPoint, is built upon over 30 years of experience designed to offer high-quality early education to children from all backgrounds. Serving over 200 children ages six weeks to 12 years old daily, KidsPoint helps provide positive early learning experiences through research-based, educational programming.KidsPoint is composed of two Learning Centerand Preschools,before/after school programming, and SummerDay Camp.
