About
In 2004, Aging Services enlisted Rockwell Collins Retiree Volunteers (RCRV, now named Collins Retiree Volunteers of Iowa) to provide freedom for homebound individuals by designing and constructing accessibility ramps for their elderly clients. We learned there is tremendous and immediate need for accessibility ramps in our area, and not just for the elderly. A coalition of agencies and individual came together to explore how to deliver cost-effective and timely home accessibility ramps to persons with disabilities. Design work began and the Wheelchair Ramp Accessibility Program (WRAP) was officially named.In2010, we became a non-profit organization.
Since 2004, we have completed more than 500 wood ramps, as well as installed temporary ramps, modified steps and built handrails to ensure safe home access for our clients. We work with more than40 regular volunteers and numerous volunteer groups and organizations.NOW - there's room to grow. We are looking for more partners, volunteers and individuals who need help.
