About this Opportunity
Job Title: External Affairs Winter Intern
Status: 15-20 Hours/Week
Department: Department of External Affairs - direct report to Aseel Elborno
Date: Jan 12- March 20
Location: Hybrid (Washington, DC & Alexandria, VA)
Comp: $1000 Stipend
IRUSA is accepting a placement to assist the Department of External Affairs (DEA). This is a hybrid position with some in-person activities both in Washington, DC and in Alexandria, VA. The intern will work closely with our team to further the mission of Islamic Relief USA through advocacy and communications, including, but not limited to, the following:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Contribute to research projects and profile through expanding digital real estate, writing, research and analysis, and engagement with various stakeholders.

Support coordination and operation efforts for various activities and tasks.

Participate in internal & external meetings and write internal memos or blogs for website.

Event support for Ramadan activities.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Competencies:

Proficient in Microsoft Office

Ability to work in a fast paced environment

Independent and self motivated to perform tasks accurately and efficiently

Strong communication skills
Learning Outcome: Intern will gain invaluable grassroots advocacy, communications and events experience, as well as insight into NGO federal advocacy, government affairs, coalition building and media relations. Intern will also learn about the work and functions of other divisions within our organization including Marketing, Volunteer, and Programs.
