Serve as the chairperson for your local bike co-op

We are seeking to add a new volunteer to serve as Chairperson. Vélocity is a non-profit cycling shop, run by volunteers. Since 2009, Vélocity has empowered kids, beginners, and cycle enthusiasts in acquiring, building, and maintaining bicycles. Vélocity fosters a diverse cycling community, offers cycling education, and provides free bicycles and related equipment to those in need.

If you’re interested in putting your leadership, organization, and communication skills to use to support your local organization, this is the position for you.

Responsibilities include the following.

• Develop and maintain a highly cohesive organization through effective communication and personal engagement across the organization and community
• Endorse updates to strategic plans, bylaws, policies, etc., for Board of Director approval
• Monitor programs and services and measure progress against goals throughout the year
• Organizes and chairs monthly Board meetings to establish policies, practices, and choices that further Velocity's mission.
• Ensure that the Board of Directors, volunteers, and staff are happy and productive
• Ensure that Velocity’s risk and liability is monitored and controlled
• Provides hands-on participation in outreach and events from time to time
• Inspire and motivate folks in the organization

We are planning for a smooth transition to a new Chairperson by the end of the year.

Our volunteer operations are centered in Alexandria VA. The ideal candidate would probably be located in Northern Virginia or the DMV.
