About this Opportunity
Brief Organizational Description:
Virginia State University’s Office of Community Engagement fosters active participation in service, and volunteerism as an integral part of student development outside of the classroom. Through community service, students gain real-world experience and practice important skills like leadership, problem-solving, and time-management. Volunteering offers students the opportunity to apply their classroom learning to practical scenarios that have real implications.
Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
We are looking for current Virginia State University students to volunteer at our food pantry “The Troy Store”. Assisting with the food pantry directly address food insecurity, a critical issue on many college campuses. This aligns well with the university’s commitment to support students facing hardships.
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
As a Troy Store volunteer your duties and responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring all students sign in when using the pantry.
- Keeping the shelves stocked.
- This volunteer opportunity is for current Virginia State University students only. Limiting the opportunity to current VSU students is logical, as it fosters a sense of community and responsibility among the student body. This requirement ensures that volunteers are familiar with the campus environment and the needs of their peers.
Time Commitment:
12:00pm - 5:00pm
Other Information (if applicable):
The Troy Store operates every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 12:00pm - 5:00pm
Hours will be verified on CFengage following your volunteer shift.
The Troy Store will not be open during Federal and University holidays.
