Homework Center Helpers at South Hollis (QPL)

Homework Centers provide support to students in grades 1-5 to better understand and complete their work. Students learn to prioritize assignments based on difficulty, review notes and textbooks, and apply the information to assignments and projects.

Students are guided by a team of Homework Help staff and volunteers trained to reinforce classroom information and employ learning techniques that allow students to confidently finish assignments on their own.

Centers operate Monday- Thursday, during after-school hours from 3:00pm - 5:30pm, starting the week of October 7th through late-May.

VOLUNTEERS WANTED
We are seeking volunteers to serve as Homework Helpers to provide valuable academic guidance to elementary students during the school year.

Qualifications

As a Homework Helper, volunteers must satisfy these requirements:

• 16 years old or older (Minors must submit parental consent and valid working papers)
• Available at least three (3) afternoons per week between Monday through Thursday
• Available between 3:00pm - 5:30pm
• Interested and willing to work with school aged children in grades 1-5
• Patient and calm demeanor able to deconstruct and explain academic information and subject matter to others
• Able to commit to a minimum of 12-15 weeks, not including holidays and school breaks.
• Bilingual skills a plus

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This is an in-person opportunity. Minors must submit a parental consent form and valid working papers and adults must complete a background screening to be eligible. Individuals, 18 and older are subject to an investigative background check that may be used when considering volunteers.
