About this Opportunity

Opportunity Overview:
Horticulture volunteers will help plant, weed, water and maintain the various gardens at the Bradley Estate. Enjoy learning the basics and some advanced techniques with skills transferable to your own home gardens. For gardeners of all experience levels – new to gardening to Master Gardeners.  Please bring gardening gloves, sunscreen, sturdy footwear and refillable water bottle.

This 90-acre country retreat sits only a short distance from hectic Rt. 128, yet will transport you back 100 years to a bucolic world of majestic homes, elegant gardens, carriage rides, fields and woodlands – all the amenities of gracious, turn-of-the-century living in the Neponset River Valley.

Please note:  If you have any favorite tools, please bring those as well.

Reports to: Trustees' Horticulture Staff

 Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to the following):

  • Maintain communication with staff supervisor
  • Work with staff to assess gardening needs
  • Weeding, deadheading, edging beds, pruning, planting, harvesting
  • Seasonal garden tasks such as raking and mulching
  • Adhere to The Trustees safety protocols
  • Sign up for your available days
Qualifications:
  • An eagerness to participate in maintaining Bradley’s gardens
  • Ability to use hand tools
  • Ability to follow instructions and work on a team
  • Have appropriate clothing and footwear for outdoor activity
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time and ability to bend and kneel
  • Ability to walk on a variety of surfaces including grass or uneven surfaces
  • Minimum age: 18.

Wednesday mornings, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
