About this Opportunity
Make a difference during our Youth Engaged In Service (YES) program this summer. YES is a chance for students, grades 6 through 12, to learn about the issues facing their community and to do something about it. Participants will engage with non-profits, city agencies, and people from all walks of life as they earn service hours and explore career paths. Half-day programs are free for Alexandria city residents.
- June 17 – Four Mile Run: Students will help with environmental cleanup and learn about local watershed protection and the impact of pollution on ecosystems.
- June 18 – St Martin's Senior Citizens Center: Students will engage with local seniors through meaningful social interaction - playing games, sharing stories, and assisting with serving lunch.
- June 19 – Meade Memorial: Students will support meal prep or distribution and discuss homelessness and community support services.
- June 24 – Adult Day Center: Students will engage with older adults through games or crafts, learning about aging, empathy, and intergenerational connection.
- June 25 – AlexRenew: Youth explore environmental stewardship, responsibility, and the impact of clean water systems on community health and sustainability.
- June 26 – ALIVE!: Students will assist in organizing food or supplies and explore how food insecurity affects families in Alexandria.
