About this Opportunity

Overview:

Come celebrate Earth Week at Powisset Farm! Explore the trails and travel through the wooded hills during a City Nature Challenge BioBlitz. The farm is home to many distinct ecosystems, such as fields, wetlands, and forests. Several interesting species have been recorded here, and we're looking for volunteers to help us document them! The session will run from 10:00AM-11:30AM.

The central tenant of a BioBlitz is to record as many species in a given area as possible. Participants take photos of a plant or animal and upload them to the app iNaturalist, which will provide a potential species identification and upload their data to a global network of wildlife enthusiasts. Other iNaturalist users can provide potential identifications or confirm your observations. This event is a citizen science initiative that will provide a wealth of information to researchers and professionals on the diverse range of species present at Powisset Farm.

Qualifications:

No prior experience is required. This event is for all levels, but please keep in mind that a phone will be required to use the app iNaturalist. Come equipped with some sturdy shoes, a water bottle, and binoculars if you have them! Field guides will be provided.

  • Access to a smartphone with iNaturalist downloaded and an account created
  • Ability to walk over uneven terrain
  • Volunteers must provide their own transportation to Powisset Farm

Location:

Volunteers will meet at the Powisset Farm Store. Powisset Farm is located at 37 Powisset Street, Dover, MA.
