About this Opportunity

Founded in 1926, The Thrift Shop of Boston, Inc. is a Massachusetts non-profit corporation, which raises funds for The Home for Little Wanderers by collecting and reselling donated items at affordable prices to people in the community.

Our shop sells clothing according to each season, and so many of our clothing items are stored in a clean and dry basement storage area. Our regularly scheduled staff and volunteers sort the donations of clothing by gender, size and type (dress, pant, shirt etc). During the spring and summer months, clothing items for the fall and winter are collected and stored in bins in the basement until the appropriate time. This volunteer project's objective is to hang the clothing from the bins onto racks, so they can be priced and brought out onto our sales floor.

This is a three hour project that involves standing during that time. There is some bending and reaching involved, but no heavy lifting. Our clothing is hung by type, size and color. So an eye for design and color coordination is helpful for this project!

MBTA Accessibility: Roslindale Village Station on the Commuter Rail, Forest Hills Station on the Orange Line, and Bus Route # 14, 30, 34, 34E, 35, 36, 37, 40, 50, & 51. Parking is first come first serve in the parking lot located behind The Thrift Shop. There is also street parking available.

At Boston Cares, we recognize that diversity, equity, and inclusion are fundamental values that guide our mission and work. Boston Cares is committed to creating a community where everyone is valued, respected, and can come and participate as their authentic selves. We expect that all volunteers and partners join us in promoting a safe and supportive space for everyone.
