Lake Revitalization at Blue Mountain Reservation

Volunteers are needed to assist with a special invasive species removal project at Blue Mountain Reservation. Volunteers will be on land and in canoes hand-pulling an invasive aquatic plant from the lake. Those volunteers who are not going out in the boats will wear waders on land or standing in the shallow water. 

What to know:

• Dress for the weather; check the forecast before leaving
• Please wear clothes that can get wet and dirty, and make sure to bring socks! Closed toed shoes are recommended; sandals are allowed as long as you also bring socks to wear and there is a strap around the heel. No flip flops.
• Bring your own reusable water bottle
• Gloves, lifejackets, and waders will be provided
• We will be working in and near the water, so it might be worth bringing a towel to dry off afterwards

Weather/cancellation policy:

• Volunteers will work in most weather, including cold, heat, and light precipitation, so please dress accordingly! Westchester Parks Foundation will cancel the project if the weather seems like it may affect the safety of its volunteers.
• In the case of inclement weather, the project may be cancelled up to an hour before the project start time. If you do not receive a cancellation email from Westchester Parks Foundation or Volunteer New York! before then, the project is still taking place.
