About this Opportunity
Who We Are
Catholic Charities Community Services' Immigration Division are seeking dedicated volunteers to assist at upcoming legal clinics held in Manhattan. These clinics provide critical legal support to immigrant communities, and volunteers play an essential role in making services accessible and effective.
Volunteer Responsibilities
- Spanish Interpreter volunteers will work directly with attorneys during legal consultations to interpret between clients and legal staff.
- Legal Screener volunteers will assist with conducting intake with clients, collecting personal background information and details about their journey to the U.S.
- All volunteers will have strong interpersonal skills and be ready and willing to support staff in proper intake stages
Qualifications & Skills
- Spanish interpreters must be fluent in both English and Spanish. This is encouraged but not required for legal screeners.
- Volunteer interpreters must be comfortable interpreting in a one-on-one setting.
- Familiarity with basic legal terminology is helpful but not required
- Ability to handle sensitive topics with care and confidentiality
- Comfortability with using a computer and other technology
