About this Opportunity

The San Marco Preservation Society (SMPS), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is on a mission to preserve, protect, and renew the San Marco neighborhood as an area of historical and architectural significance for the education, enjoyment, and benefit of residents, visitors, and surrounding Jacksonville communities.

SMPS efforts are volunteer-driven, and one critical service it provides is the collection and stewardship of historical documents and other assets. These are collectively referred to as the Archives. Volunteers interested in helping in the preservation and growth of the SMPS Archives may be asked to do one of the following tasks: review, scan, and/or file documents; sort and classify old newspaper collections; sort and label photos, organize digital collections, and perform data entry. All activities associated with these tasks are done in person in an office environment. No heavy lifting is required. For most tasks, volunteers should be comfortable with Google Drive, Microsoft Word, and Excel spreadsheets. Some tasks do not require the use of a computer.

Volunteer work in the SMPS Archives directly supports events and preservation projects associated with San Marco's Centennial observance throughout 2025.
