About this Opportunity

Reports to National Park Service Staff 

Our Opportunity: 

Litter Removal Volunteers support Gateway Arch National Park by helping maintain the park grounds so they remain welcoming for park visitors. Volunteers will work alongside NPS grounds staff to pick up trash around the grounds before the park opens each day. Uniform shirt and nametag, litter picker stick, trash bags, and a baseball cap will be provided. Volunteers should wear comfortable pants and shoes. 

Roles and Responsibilities: 

18 or older (younger applicants with parental/guardian approval may be considered). As representatives of The National Park Service and Gateway Arch Park Foundation, volunteers must adhere to the policies, procedures, and code of conduct as outlined in the volunteer handbook provided prior to or during training. 

Required Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills: 

  • A desire to keep Gateway Arch National Park looking beautiful and welcoming 

  • Enthusiasm, friendliness, and a positive attitude  

  • Respect for confidentiality of the Gateway Arch National Park’s volunteers, partners, members, and donors 

  • Willingness to take initiative and voice ideas 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time  

  • Ability to use hands to remove litter from the ground 

Commitment:  

Days and times for volunteer shifts will be decided between the volunteer and supervisor.  

Location: 

Gateway Arch National Park is located at 11 N. 4th Street, St. Louis, MO 63102. Volunteers will receive parking instructions 24 hours before an event.  

Training and Supervision: 

Training will be conducted by volunteer supervisors or seasoned volunteers on the first day of each volunteer’s shift and will vary depending on the position, supervisor, and personal learning styles.
