About this Opportunity
The City of Alexandria Volunteer Reception Center (VRC) is a disaster response organization, activated by the Office of Emergency Management.
A Volunteer Reception Center is staffed by a group of trained Volunteers and Volunteer Leaders to serve in a capacity to quickly register, train, and deploy new community volunteers. This helps support disaster response and recovery efforts safely and efficiently. VRC training gives you the knowledge and tools to be part of the operations staff of the VRC when it is activated after a disaster.
What does that look like?
After the initial impact of a disaster, people often look to help their communities, as they are able. Some have training or are part of organizations that participate in response, but many are not. Many are just people that spontaneously feel the need to make things better, and want to help.
The VRC provides a central point for these community volunteers to become an integral part of the disaster recovery process. We work with disaster responders and agencies to help fill their needs for extra hands, to meet the needs of the community.
This is a multi-part training. It is expected that participants attend all sessions, or arrange a make-up session for any material missed.
May classes are 5 sessions, and will be held Wednesday evenings, 7-9:30pm, May 14, 21, 28, June 4, and 11
