About this Opportunity
HI USA's Mission: To help all, especially the young, gain a greater understanding of the world and its people through hostelling.
There are a different volunteer stations that will require help during this event:
Welcome Station: Welcome guests to the event, issue them two drink tickets, count them, and have them fill out and put on a nametag. Make sure they feel welcome and directed to the activities and refreshments.
Roamers: Some volunteers will roam the event, helping to establish socialization and cultural exchange through the conversation cards, or through organic social interactions. They'll also direct guests to the activities available and help keep the party area tidy, clean of empty food or beverage containers.
Trivia Hosts: We have some Trivia events that may require someone to present trivia questions, communicate with the guests, and issue prizes to those who answer correctly.
Audio Help / DJ: We would like to find volunteers who can operate our audio equipment in a way that they can be trusted to set up, and put away all the gear safely and without damage. They may also help set the vibe with music, or take requests, shouting out birthdays or making announcements, promoting the activities as well.
All volunteers will be asked to monitor the party for rule violators. HI-USA will provide further instructions in person regarding this.
Please note: If the volunteers want to help more than one-time, HI Boston, requires that they complete a background check that will be emailed to the volunteer directly to complete.
All Welcome Party volunteers must be 21+ and have an ID. Volunteers will be standing for 4 hours and may need to lift boxes up to 20lbs and equipment up to 40lbs. Volunteers who are bilingual, have public speaking and communication skills are encouraged to join!
MBTA: Green Line (Boylston), Silver Line (Washington @ Tufts), and Orange Line (Chinatown, Tufts)
Please note there is not parking on site.
At Boston Cares, we recognize that diversity, equity, and inclusion are fundamental values that guide our mission and work. Boston Cares is committed to creating a community where everyone is valued, respected, and can come and participate as their authentic selves. We expect that all volunteers and partners join us in promoting a safe and supportive space for everyone.
