About this Opportunity
About the Shawmut Garden:
The Shawmut Garden is a teaching garden in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood, located along the walkways to the Shawmut MBTA Station (Red Line, Ashmont Branch). The Garden features native plants that have offered food and/or medicine. Teachers and students from area schools, as well as adult learners, are invited to visit and learn.
Volunteers will join neighbors to maintain and continue to develop the Gardens. Tasks include raking leaves and mulch, pulling weeds, installing new plants, pruning shrubs, and picking up trash/ debris.
Please note: Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Please wear closed toe shoes. We will supply tools and garden gloves (although volunteers are welcome to bring their own), Chlorox wipes to disinfect tool handles between users, and ice water on hot days. We will maintain appropriate social distances as we work in the three-block long Garden.
Shawmut Station is located at the intersection of Dayton Street and Clementine Way, Dorchester
T-Accessible: Red Line, Ashmont Branch (Shawmut)
Youth-friendly, all ages. All volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by an adult over 18 years old. All volunteers under 18 years old must bring a Permission Form signed by a parent or guardian to give to the volunteer leader. Please email [email protected] or call 617-422-0910x209 if you have any questions.
