Compost and Grow Food at the Hazelwood Food & Recycling Site

Location: 4501 Sylvan Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15207 (Near Home Rule Street in Hazelwood)

Activities: Composting demonstrations & sifting, gardening, weeding, and an interactive session on our Community Impact Network.

Information: The 93 Bus takes you right to Sylvan avenue. From there it's a short walk to the site. When you arrive at 9:30am, make sure to pull to the site closest to Home Rule Street (at the end of Sylvan). You will see two large sheds, a bunch of compost bins and portable toilet to help identify the location. THERE IS CURRENTLY CONSTRUCITON ON SYLVAN AVENUE, SO IF JOURNEYING BY CAR, WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU APPROACH THE SITE VIA GLADSTONE AVENUE AND CIRCLE BACK ON SYLVAN FROM HOME RULE STREET.

Guidance: Make sure to bring clothes toed shoes, long pants, and wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty! Insect repellent and sunscreen (if it’s sunny), can also be nice to haves. We will have gloves available, but you’re also welcome to bring your own.

Accommodations: We will have lunch available, but we encourage you to bring your own water!
