About this Opportunity


Help us expand and improve the trail system at Mill Ridge Park! Volunteers will take an approximately 3-mile guided hike of the park, serving as trail crew for the afternoon while learning about sustainable trail building techniques and performing tasks such as:

Expect a fun day that will involve hiking, bending, lifting, and the use of hand tools, including:

  • Planning, measuring, mapping, and marking primitive trails.   

  • Picking up and removing litter and debris from the trails.

  • Trimming branches.

  • Moving downed trees and branches from trail to maintain proper corridor and prevent shortcutting. 

This section of trail is primitive in nature. Participants should dress appropriately for weather conditions and trail that may include sections with overgrown grass. Participants may wish to bring a small daypack for water/snacks. No restrooms onsite. Dogs are allowed, however leashes are required at all times.


Mill Ridge Park is a 622+ acre regional park, centrally located in the fast-growing and diverse community of Southeast Davidson County. Friends of Mill Ridge Park enhances and advocates for Mill Ridge Park to strengthen the community in Southeast Davidson County. Friends of Mill Ridge Park hosts and facilitates community driven education, recreation, and conservation focused volunteer opportunities, as well as programmed activities that include seasonal guided hikes, kite festival, pumpkin patch parties, and night sky viewing parties.
